Delightful experience: the interplay of zones creates a sense of delight as the occupant transitions from one space to the next, the interplay of what is indoor and outdoor with the abundant use of natural light creating a pleasing environment. The use of a curving central wall encourages the viewer to look out onto the ocean view, and in turn begin to experience the house, the many recesses within this structure create a sense of intimicacy with the occupant, juxtaposing the larger open spaces. The incredible contrast of jagged forms within the house provides a sense of awe from both outside and within, encouraging the occupant to continue exploring as new sights are framed by the residences angled walls around every corner. The interplay of materials such as timber, steel, concrete and glass throughout the house also provides a delightful sensory experience at both a visual and textural level.
Environmental filter: The houses many recesses and reveals create an abundant interplay of natural light through the interior spaces. The selectively placed eaves and external facades providing a careful interplay of light throughout the house where appropriate, also providing stunning views of the panoramic landscape. The house interplays both interior and exterior spaces, creating a smooth transition from interior to exterior spaces. A careful balance of interior and exterior spaces had to be achieved to avoid the occupant feeling too revealed to the sun, or too boxed in from their fantastic setting.
Container of human activities: The interplay of zones, and lack of defined rooms creates a unique experience for the occupant as they travel through this space unhindered by obvious walls or doors, consequently also providing a more pleasing and flowing visual journey too. The kitchen and living spaces are played ot along the bottom floor, using the curvature of the main wall to orient the viewers attention outside towards the panoramic landscape. More private spaces such as bedrooms and the study are placed upstairs. Throughout the whole building, the garden and exterior space are utilised as the central piece of the composition, the house working the occupant out towards this space through the houses zonal layout.
