Sunrise beach house
Delightful experience: This building achieves its sense of delight through its humble and serene layout. The occupant gently introduced to the sites beautiful context through the sites use of natural textures, colours and materials, drawing inspiration from the local pandanus palms, sand and water, making the building one with the site. In moving through the house the building provides an ever shifting framing of the beachfront view, modulating light and views to provide an ever changing sense of intrigue in the viewer, and subsequently encouraging them to continue their journey through the house.
Environmental filter: The houses orientation takes advantage of the cool summer breezes and warming winter sun with its NE orientation. The placement of primary living spaces provides ample cross ventilation from the sea breezes, specifically through the use of carefully controlled luvers and sliding doors, allowing the spaces to be completely enclosed for summer storms, or open plan during hot days. The house also blocks out the traffic and noise from the busy David Low way, providing a serene escape.
Container of human activities: This building was constructed as a family friendly structure, able to accommodate a family 5. The buildings plethora of sliding doors and luvers allowing the spaces to be transformed from internal to external to fit the occasion and take advantage of the sites context. Primary spaces such as the kitchen and lounge room are played out towards the beach, whereas bedrooms are played to the exterior of the house, providing a greater level of privacy. All rooms within this house aim to capture a different element of the beach in their own way, capitalizing on the site context.
